Let's Look For What Is The Answer
There is a problem when you are trying to define Hope.
For Hope to have any benefit you need to examine what is the foundation of that Hope.
Generally we think of Hope as some type of 'wishing that something will happen'. If this is the level of Hope one has than it can not have a firm foundation because if the uncertainty that it produces.
There is another type of Hope that is based on Faith. To understand how this type of Hope has a firm foundation needs more explaination.
There is a Bible Verse that says, "Now Faith is the substance of things Hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.", Hebrews 11:1.
So let's unpack this further. Now taking that Hope has substance and has evidence of something that can't be seen then it could be understood that this type of Hope may have firm a foundation. This firm foundation is Faith.
So now we have Faith brought into the picture let's define Faith. Given that we find this definition of Hope in The Bible we should also see what The Bible has to say about Faith because if it is solid evidence for Hope we need to look into this further.
For Faith to have substance or be considered as evidence we need to see why this Faith can be relied on. In another verse from The Bible we see in Romans 10:17; "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
So the solid foundation of Faith is 'hearing a Word from God'. Now you may or may not have a belief that the God of The Bilble is true but it would be astute for you to at least check this out.
I am not going to try to set this out for you by my explaination. I will leave this to others, the links to these are below. I hope you make some time to watch these speakers who I am convinced can give you a sure firm founding in Faith and Hope.
